After spending another night in our fabulous hotel we left early to drive 460km south to Victoria, the capital of Vancouver Island.
It was a long drive and we didn't make too many stops, because we needed to make sure we catch the last Ferry to the US. Shortly before we arrived in Victoria we turned out at the Halahat viewpoint from where we had a wonderful view over the Victoria, Mount Baker all the way down to San Juan Islands in the distance.
Shortly after we arrived at Victoria we found out, that the Dragon Boat Race was going on in the Harbor. We watched it for a few moments and then walked thru the older areas of downtown Victoria. As the name suggests it was founded during the Victorian time around the 1850's. It became important with BC Gold Rush but lost its importance to Vancouver with the completion of the Railway system and the Burard Inlet terminus. We then boarded on the Coho of the Black Ball Ferry line. It turnet out to Be perfect timing, because we sailed into the sunset. from the vessel you could see Mount Olympus, Mount Baker and Mount Rainier. All painted in the warm reddish colors of the setting sun. With the completion of the 90min trip we finally entered US territory at Port Angeles and moved to our Super 8 motel. That was definitely an upgrade from the last hotel.
